Biomea Fusion is seeking an experienced Lab Manager/Sr. Lab Manager to work on-site at our new Innovation Center (Laboratory) located in San Carlos, CA.  The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and managerial skills to manage and maintain our lab and operations.  The Lab Manager/Sr. Lab Manger will play a vital role in the overall organization, expansion, operation, and safety of the lab and will be well versed in permitting, training and reporting requirements as set forth by local state and federal regulations. The Lab Manager/Sr. Lab Manager will work closely with the Facilities Specialist and Lab Office Assistant to ensure the Lab runs smoothly, efficiently and support flexible coverage outside of normal business hours.  This is onsite position.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for overseeing all day-to-day lab operations including; maintaining adequate lab supply inventory, remedying technical issues, managing equipment maintenance and waste collection/disposal, building vendor relationships, creating and implementing lab organization systems, and onboarding new employees to the lab environment.
    • Ensures that the lab business requirements are assessed, prioritized and paired with technical solutions in a timely manner.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all lab users, vendors and laboratory service providers, delegating responsibilities as needed; prior experience in a Chemistry Lab preferred.
    • Serve as primary emergency response contact.
    • Lead cross-functional decision-making regarding lab supplies, equipment selection, equipment purchasing, lab space planning, equipment utilization, and waste stream management in collaboration with lab users.
    • Assist with space and work-flow planning, including planning and project management of moves and buildouts.
    • Organize and designate shared lab responsibilities and facilitate collaboration.
    • In collaboration with lab users, implement and maintain lab inventory system, stock maintenance strategy, and handle ordering of common supplies, including consumables, liquid nitrogen/cell storage, chemical reagents.
    • Manage the receiving, delivery, and shipping of packages for both domestic and international shipments.
    • Ensure that all shipments are reconciled with purchase orders, accurately entered into the Orders system, and delivered to correct personnel or stock locations.
    • Identify and implement improvements to stock management and receiving, including, but not limited to min/max levels, forecasting, and support from vendors.
    • Manage support for a diverse portfolio of laboratory equipment.
    • Train users on lab equipment standard operating procedures and promptly respond and remedy any issues encountered during usage.
    • Lead periodic pipette calibration activities, scheduling with lab users and partnering with external resources for execution of calibration.
    • Develop standard operating procedures to ensure that lab equipment and instrumentation are in good repair and kept current with respect to cleaning, preventive maintenance, calibration, and inspection, coordinating with lab users, and external service providers.
    • Oversee safety consultant and conduct orientation and annual safety training for all lab personnel
    • Routinely collaborate and attend meetings with scientists to address laboratory workflow, issues, projects, concerns, etc.
    • Ensure compliance with all EH&S regulation, coordinating laboratory safety trainings, acting as chemical hygiene officer. This includes managing contracts with external service providers for biological and chemical waste.
    • Perform additional duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of related, demonstrated laboratory operations experience managing and scaling lab operations in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or academic life sciences research environment.
    • Excellent organization skills, ability to multi-task, team orientated, can-do attitude and ability to collaborate with others in dynamic environment.
    • Highly proficient using Microsoft Office Suites. Knowledge of MS Teams is a plus.
    • Broad understanding of IT systems and ability to troubleshoot day-to-day issues.
    • Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs in a lab environment, using good judgement to troubleshoot issues.
    • Ability to engage in significant standing, walking, moving, carrying, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
    • Ability to move and lift boxes and equipment up to 45 lbs.
    • This position requires 24-hour response availability for emergency situations.
